Wine Lovers Alert!

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Global sales of high-end wines are suffering terribly.  So what are wine makers doing with their excess inventory sitting at their vineyards?  In some cases, they are turning to wine clearinghouses that buy these expensive wines at incredible discounts.  And that’s good news for you and me.  If you are looking to purchase great wine for an event/wedding, or just love good wine, check out:

Every day, they feature between 1-4 different wines at 30-70% discounts.  You need to be patient for the right wine at the right price but very seldom do you find wine deals of this nature.

A Different Kind of Event Design

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

When I go to a concert, I’m a bit of a nerd in that I study the production elements – lighting, mechanics, video projection and use of new technology.  It is a great place for event inspiration.   Last night, I was fortunate to see U2 at Giants Stadium.  For this tour, they engineered a truss system that allowed concert-goers to watch unobstructed (hence the 360 tour) from all sides.  From this free standing “Claw”, they were able to hang their equipment and a circular video screen above them.  The photo below shows a point when the video screen actually enlarged by dropping down closer to the stage.  And yes, it was an incredible concert.

“Picnick” in the Park

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

If you haven’t visited the fabulously creative Will Goldfarb’s eco-friendly kiosk Picnick in Battery Park, make sure you get down there before they close for the season on October 4th. Will, one of the most creative culinary minds in New York, is always on the hunt for amazing food and drink items that you’ve never tried before.   In addition to the yummy food, he is serving incredible beers and wines – make sure you try the Sparkling Wine from Bordeaux – delicious. It will make you wonder if its worth paying a premium for everyday Champagne.

And when you get settled in at the bar, it’s not too bad watching the sun set over Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I closed my eyes and for a minute, I thought I was sitting at a bar in St. Barts.

Also, check out his amazing BBQ truck – Picnick Smoked – downtown.

Inspiring Vacation

Friday, September 11th, 2009

We did an event last evening to help Duvine Adventures and its owner Andy Levine celebrate the company’s 15th anniversary.  They run incredible bike tours all around the world (my personal favorites are the wine country trips to Burgundy, Provence and Tuscany.)  Check them out at www.duvine.com The company has developed a cult-like following and dozens of former clients showed up to celebrate.   If you are looking for a unique and inspiring vacation, I’d check them out.
